The Whitby Green Standard (WGS) is a toolkit that has been developed to help encourage and enhance sustainable new development across the Town. The Whitby Green Standard will help ensure new developments in the Town are constructed with sustainability in mind and identifies ways in which developers can go above and beyond to exceed these criteria. The WGS is being updated as per action 2.4.2 in the Climate Emergency Response Plan, Phase 2: Mitigation.

This program will help meet the Town’s commitment to plan for and invest in green space and quality infrastructure to support the needs of a growing and changing community by investing in connected and resilient natural and built environments.

The Whitby Green Standard is also a response to the Town’s greenhouse gas reduction target of net-zero emissions by 2045.
